Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email sent to us as needed to answer it. The message remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers automatically receive basic technical details when a page loads:
- Page-view timestamps
- Your device's assigned IP address
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- Browser name and version
- Operating system and device type
- The referring website, when available
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. We use them with analytics services to understand aggregate traffic, including popular pages and common exit points. You may block cookies through browser settings, although doing so can change how some site features behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Finding and correcting technical problems
- Operating the website and maintaining reasonable load times
- Routing a query to the selected search provider
- Understanding which content visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect user interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We neither maintain nor sell a database of personal criminal records. Our content explains how to request Summit County material from the Sheriff's Office, Summit County Combined Courts, municipal courts, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, and the Colorado Sex Offender Registry. Agency release of criminal-justice records is governed in part by the Colorado Criminal Justice Records Act, C.R.S. §§ 24-72-301 through 24-72-309. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention rules, and disclosure practices govern information entered there, and we do not control those terms. Review the relevant provider's policy before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Summit County offices, Colorado court and agency sites, legal resources, or outside search services. Once you follow a link, the destination's privacy policy applies. Read it before providing personal details.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across websites for targeted advertising.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. It may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring site traffic and performance
- Search providers processing a query you submit
- Advertising networks serving content on our pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
We use customary safeguards for collected information. No internet-connected system is completely secure, however, so we cannot guarantee that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Depending on residency and applicability, the Colorado Privacy Act, C.R.S. §§ 6-1-1301 through 6-1-1314, and the Colorado Consumer Protection Act, C.R.S. §§ 6-1-101 et seq., may provide additional rights concerning personal data. You may ask to:
- Correct inaccurate information
- Receive a copy of personal data held about you
- Delete eligible personal data
- Opt out of certain processing where the law provides that choice
